The VIP Members of our Herd

Mervin

Mervin, or "Merv", is our resident Nigerian Dwarf. She is our Welcoming Committee Chair, and she's terrible at her job. She hates all new additions to the herd, is very protective of her clique with Ever and Nottie, and she's our only horned goat and she WILL use them against other herd-members. She is much sweeter to humans, and is very partial to her mommy and will accept all forms of scritches. Beware of sass.

Mervin was supposed to be a wether, but in a rookie mistake, Karen picked her out of a litter of 3 and brought her home, and it took her three hours to realize that she was actually a female. At that point, she was too attached to send her back. She is now paying for her error with laughs, cuddles, and the occasional "MERVIN!" when this little Nigerian pushes her way out of the gate.

Welcoming Committee Chair

Sigismund

Sigismund, or "Siggy", is Merv's half brother from the same dam, but is a Mini Nubian. The Half Acre Wood family decided they didn't have enough trouble on the farm with Merv, so they should go and invite more mischievous members of this family line into their lives. Siggy came full of personality and energy, in addition to his cute floppy ears and beautiful colors. Siggy is in charge of all advertising for the farm. You will never find him at his desk, and his voicemail is always full.

Director of Marketing

Nightmare

Chief of Morale

Nightmare is a full Nubian. He is in charge of keeping up spirits around the farm when times get tough. He works Monday through Fridays from 10:00-10:05 a.m., but he's off on Wednesdays and Thursdays. He enjoys sleeping in the sunshine and doing his own thing. His best friend is Siggy, but he finds him too hyper most of the time, and prefers to remain in his vicinity, but about five feet away. Will seek cuddles on his terms only. He is extremely cute, and when he looks up at you, the whole world melts away. But please don't look too long, that makes him uncomfortable. If you'd like an appointment with him, he books a year out. And he's probably busy that day.

Magnus the Red

Sergeant of Security

Magnus the Red, or "Manus", or "Magnus Moo", or "Moo", or "Moodles", is our livestock guardian dog. He is an Anatolian Shepherd. He doesn't like the heat, but will stand out in the rain happily, or slosh around in his pool. He doesn't like the dark, and likes to take afternoon naps inside on the bedroom floor. He loves his goats and chickens. So far, the predators he has killed include several crickets, a few rats, three birds, plus he has annoyed the neighbors to no end. He's 115 pounds and would like to sit on his mommy's lap, please and thank you.

In all seriousness though, he is very good at his job, and is fiercely protective of his family and animals. We have had no predator problems at all, including from the bald eagles who nest nearby and are constantly flying over our free-range chickens. We are very lucky to have our Magnus Moo.
